Project Pick | Collaborative Rug Design by Sean Atmos and Ceadogán Rugmakers

Ceadogán Rugmakers with Fr. Peter Mc Verry

‘Island’ was an ambitious undertaking for which Ceadogán Rugmakers invited twelve of Ireland’s leading artists to collaborate in creating a unique one-off rug based on each artist’s designs.

The exhibition Featured original designs from:

Sean Atmos, Dorothy Cross, Lola Donoghue, Alice Fitzgerald, Gottfried Helnwein, Maser, Colm Mac Athlaoich, Gilbert Menassa, Hannah Ní Mhaonaigh, Mary O’Connor, Sean Scully
and Domino Whisker.

The rugs were exhibited at Hang Tough Contemporary and the works were auctioned by Whyte’s Auctioneers, with 50% of all profits going to the Peter McVerry Trust.

The remainder was divided between the artists and a regenerative project at the site of the Ceadogán workshop and showrooms.

In discussing the creation of his rug design, Unified Whole, Sean Atmos describes it as a unique opportunity to highlight the bold, underlying values of graphic lettering.

"I aimed to create a design that emphasizes the bold, foundational values of graphic lettering, shaping the relationship between these values to form the base for my interplay of warm and cool tones."
